StarPort Resorts Inc. revealed their plans on creating Port St. George, a self-sustaining resort that stretches two miles from the Atlantic Ocean to Exuma Sound (Caribbean Perspective). In what is expected to be the largest marina as well as the first eco-engineered waterfront haven in The Bahamas, Port St. George will be a phenomenal luxury destination. Located on Long Island, which is widely known for its conflicting coastline of pristine, limestone cliffs and serene, sandy beaches, Port St. George is going to be completely independent through the use of solar tiles and storage batteries.
With the Stella Maris International Airport just minutes away, the highly anticipated Port St. George will include a 640-berth marina, which would be capable of accommodating vessels of up to 100 feet in length and offer smooth access to HNWI yacht enthusiasts. Additionally, Port St. George’s mixed-use development is planned to be tailored for individuals in search of bona fide Bahamian customs, luxurious features, contemporary amenities and an eco-friendly environment.
With eco-engineering and future-proofing being integrated into each element of the project, Port St. George will symbolize the next generation of luxury destinations. The site plan for Port St. George was developed by Studio Hillier, and they are also handling the project’s commercial and residential architecture. Both Studio Hill and StarPort Resorts Inc. cooperate together with a mutual zeal for design that is both aesthetically appealing and environmentally sustainable.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are grown on an organic hydroponics farm, which makes imported products less needed. All food waste would be distributed straight from residential and commercial structures to a composting center that reduces water and creates a product for soil enrichment. Cisterns will store rainwater and a solar-powered, reverse-osmosis desalinization plant will convert seawater into drinkable water for the development.
“Port St. George will serve as a vibrant oasis from which to explore the untouched wonders of Long Island,” said Duane Gerenser, president of StarPort Resorts Inc. “The sustainable development will create an environment that is inclusive of the Bahamian people and local culture, an uncommon effort among many secluded luxury resorts. The eco-engineered project will bring employment opportunities, provide athletic facilities and instruction to local schools, and offer a platform for artists, craftspeople, and entrepreneurs to thrive.”
The sustainability intentions of Port St. George is about to become real now that the marina is attempting Blue Flag certification. Once the marina has obtained this certification, it will become one of the first marinas in The Bahamas to attain this acclaimed eco-label.
Situated on a one-mile arc of waterfront, the marina will be providing enhanced storm protection due to the size, allowing vessels to dock throughout the whole year, which is uncommon in this specific region. Full marina services such as, customs, immigration, boat cleaning & repair facilities, fueling, supplies and chandlery, will also be offered. Lastly, but certainly not least, the marina will serve as a lively village center for residents, resort guests and local Bahamians; this will include:
- 276 luxury condominiums, 82 townhouses, five single-family homes and five branded residences, all of which are positioned, at most, a few hundred yards from the waterfront
- A 50-room five-star hotel that includes hotel residences
- A 40-room inn
- A culinary school, retail shops, food market and additional food and beverage venues
- A yacht club
- A lighthouse that overlooks Exuma Sound as well as features a waterfront bar and restaurant at the base
State-of-the-art sporting facilities will be an important feature of Port St. George, and will include:
- An 18-hole golf course
- Six first-class tennis courts, comprising three grass courts and three clay courts
- Water sports including fishing, snorkeling, ocean rowing, paddle boarding, kayaking and excursions on solar-powered watercraft.
- A swimming complex with an Olympic size pool and wading pools
- Athletic fields including a cricket pitch, a soccer field, and a ball field with a running track will also serve the local community.
StarPort Resorts Inc. are going to deliver and market the development of Port St. George in place of the owners, P.S.G. Limited. Furthermore, Clairfield International has already arranged the funding for the $500 million project that is expected to take construction as long as five years to complete.
