Exploring Traditional British Decor | The Rubens at The Palace

Situated in the heart of London, the imposing 5-Star Rubens at the Palace sits in all its splendor. Focusing their attention on the finer details of the building, the grand hotel releases an air of traditional British style with an emphasis on inner decor. Offering stunning views of the Royal Mew of Buckingham Palace, the Rubens delivers guests an elegant experience with fantastic culinary options in a very British setting.

The Rubens Hotel boasts 2 fine dining venues, 3 unique bars, a lounge with breathtaking views and of course 24-hour room service to all guests. With a traditional British inspired dining experience, one of the hotel’s restaurants, the English Grill, welcomes guest to a royal themed space complemented by grand chandeliers, glistening silver and classic tailcoat waiters. Recently bestowed the OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award 2019 as well as awarded two AA Rosettes in 2018, the English Grill uses only the highest of quality ingredients straight from suppliers working for the Queen’s kitchen. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, pre-theatre, Dinner and all day dining options; highlights include an exclusive wine list from Bouchard Finlayson (their sister vineyard located in South Africa).

In contrast to the regal atmosphere that the English Grill exudes, the Curry Room harmonizes Indian and African influences together to create an excellent three-course menu curated by Chef Arun Kumar and Kevin Joseph, the executive chef at a sister property of the Rubens, the Oyster Box Hotel. The interior layout is warm and inviting with fiery red furnishings, Rajasthani tapestry, copper elements and crockery imported from India. However, much like the English Grill, the wine selection here is also from Bouchard Finlayson and even includes an array of Indian beer like Kingfisher and Cobra. Proud of their AA Rosette award, the Curry Room’s ‘all-inclusive menu’ serves tantalizing Indian starters, entrées and desserts that are priced at just $47 USD per person.

One of the defining points of the day is the Afternoon Tea at the Palace Lounge. As guests are enjoying amazing views overlooking the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, they can calm their mind with a soothing cup of tea along with delectable treats. Having been given high praise in the 2019 Afternoon Tea Awards, this traditional English venue is catered by the hotel’s pastry kitchen, who deliver scrumptious little pastries, finger sandwiches and small cakes to go with a nice, fresh sip of tea. In addition, a selection of dietary options are available to choose from to allow patrons a more versatile menu.

At the Rubens there are three luxurious bars, which all sport a unique style of their own. Located to your right after leaving the reception area of the hotel, the bbar (known as the 43 Below Bar) is recognized for its South African inspired setting with an incredible bespoke menu. A great place for hosting private parties of up to 70 people, the bbar includes a wide range of 110 wines and over 60 cocktails. Available for private booking this dining and drinking venue is the perfect place to have a fun and relaxing time.

Similar to the Curry Room with its vibrant red decor, but releasing a more dignified air to it, the New York Bar incorporates time-honored hospitality and a little bit of flair to create a magnetic drinking experience. Including a gin tasting menu, extraordinary cocktails and live music, this bar will surely intrigue any spirit aficionado. The New York Bar features both a bar menu and Express Lunch menu. Homemade pastries and hot coffee are generously provided every morning from 7.30 a.m. to 12 noon.

As the most lavish bar in the Rubens at the Palace, the Leopard Bar’s focal point is leopard patterned flooring with its signature Bronze Leopard Structure by Donald Greig. Brown leather deep-buttoned sofas and aged pine wood framed walls that are decked with glass whiskey cabinetry complete the space with live jazz and swing music being played in the background. A list of 200 whiskeys and 30 champagnes guarantee guests a variety of spirits, which can be enjoyed next to dishes such as their famous steak sandwich or freshly prepared sushi and sashimi. Furthermore, specially requested vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices are options for those dining at the Leopard Bar.
