Creating Magic With Roxy Marrone

House of Roxy founder, Roxy Marrone is working to turn her passion project into the quintessential health and wellness lifestyle brand. Producing a range of goods, including bath products and jewelry focused on manifestation and spiritual healing. The brand is now taking its next step with the development of organic super food powders and a super chic pop up tea & juice bar to demonstrate the powder’s many applications and uses through July.

The Extravagant recently caught up with Roxy to discuss her upcoming product launches and the brand’s new pop up shop. The Tea and Juice bar launched by House of Roxy earlier this spring is located within The Organic Pharmacy’s Marylebone Flagship Store near Regent’s Park in London. The Organic Pharmacy, a staple in London’s health & wellness scene, was founded by Roxy’s parents, Francesco and Margo Marrone, in 2002. Currently, Roxy splits her time between managing events for The Organic Pharmacy and running House of Roxy.

In addition to making some of the best Matcha in London, the tea & juice bar offers customers a variety of House of Roxy products including candles, crystals, body oils, and dog treats. However, the most impressive offering is Roxy’s own super food powders which she mixes into a variety of drinks. According to Roxy the product “increases the production of collagen in your body” and can be mixed with a variety of foods and drinks, stating “you can put them in your porridge” and adding, you can mix them with “really anything hot or even a smoothie.” House of Roxy produces four powders in the United Kingdom, including the Cosmic Collagen Booster (a blend of acai, camu camu, acerola, maqui and goji berries), the Magic Matcha Latte (a blend of green phytonutrients and ceremonial grade matcha), Shroom Mood Latte (an adaptogenic latte filled with ashwagandha, mushrooms, antioxidant rich cacao, and sweet flavors of cinnamon and vanilla), and lastly Glow Seeds (crafted from an adaptogenic concoction of linseed, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower seeds, and tumeric). Roxy boasts that the Glow Seeds “will increase brain function, elasticity [in] skin and leave you glowing from within.” As of right now Roxy manages the production and packaging of the powders in-house as well as the production of her brand’s incense.

In addition to tea and juice, the bar features house made granola, energy balls, yogurt balls, and a couple other treats featuring Roxy’s super food powders.  And a unique perk of visiting the House of Roxy Tea & Juice Bar is the convenient access to the adjacent spa treatments at The Organic Pharmacy. A recent installation at the pop up was a dog focused event with a pet cookbook author and a doga class (doggie yoga).

Speaking on her products mission, Roxy states “[The Organic Pharmacy and House of Roxy’s] brand values and goals are really with benefiting people in a way that is healthy and sustainable,” adding “both my products and Organic Pharmacy products are all made to benefit the user in some way shape or form. So, my ideology is that I’m bringing magic into your everyday routine.” House of Roxy Super Food Powders are now available online and in-store at the brand’s Tea & Juice bar. 2021 New Year’s Resolutions Prioritize Health & Wellness

It’s that time of year again where we take a moment to look back at all that has happened and reevaluate our lives as well as celebrate the prospects of what the new year holds for both ourselves and those around us. On this momentous occasion, we share a time honored tradition, which has been maintained in order to reflect and make improvements upon: our New Year’s Resolution. In spite of the ongoing pandemic, making New Year’s resolutions is a great solution to take our minds away from the quarantine and focus our energy on something more constructive.

Please see the below New Year’s resolutions that will allow for eco-friendly changes that bring both health benefits and exciting new challenges for year 2021.

RESOLUTION: Less Screen Time

Reducing screen time can have a strong, positive impact on decreasing depression as well as getting better quality sleep, something many today are struggling with due to quarantine and remote work. Homes at Washington D.C.’s luxury waterfront rental Watermark encourage residents to take a break from copious screen time with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Anacostia River with views of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and Riverwalk Trail. The 453-unit building, which was co-developed by Douglass Development and PTM Patners, also features tons of outdoor amenities, including a rooftop infinity pool, outdoor courtyards and a dog park. One reason a couple living at Watermark decided to move in was because of these perks that will allow them to decrease their screen time.

RESOLUTION: Learn an Instrument

Music naturally relaxes the body and mind, and the simple routine of practicing an instrument can help melt away stress. Llewellyn, a new 318-unit apartment community in LA’s Mission Junction neighborhood, houses a dedicated 600 square-foot jam room, in which residents can practice and record music in an acoustically isolated setting that maximizes sound while reducing disruption to neighbors. The space is also ideal for other creative audio pursuits, such as podcasting.

RESOLUTION: Help the Environment

New Caribbean residential resort Rock House makes it easy to make sustainability a top priority in 2021. Helping the environment is proven to reduce eco-anxiety and, once the project is completed next year, residents can relax knowing rainwater and grey (waste) water will be harvested for day-to-day irrigation to minimize water waste. Natural ventilation will cool the homes, while instant hot water heaters will be used for maximum efficiency, as only the required hot water is heated. The project’s low-density nature ensure a very low environmental impact, plus reduces irrigation cost and waste. Plus, no foliage will be imported for Rock House and all flora is indigenous to the site. The native landscape’s trees, shrubs and succulents, including the centuries old, slow-growing Joewood trees, are housed in an onsite nursey during construction in order to be incorporated back into the resort’s landscaping once complete.

RESOLUTION: Focus on Fitness

Townhouse on The Park, a 75-unit luxury rental development in Long Island City, NYC is ideal for those determined to prioritize their mental and physical health in the New Year. The gorgeous triplexes feature ample health and wellness amenities like MIRROR home gym systems in every unit, allowing residents to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle both while sheltering in place and once restrictions have lifted. With a Citi Bike station conveniently located at the property, cycling enthusiasts will love exploring the plethora of nearby bike trails. Additionally, to provide residents with a connection to nature, which is associated with improved mental health, all apartments feature private outdoor space via private gardens or rooftop balconies, as well as wall-to-wall windows to allow for natural light. Leading Queens brokerage, Modern Spaces is handling marketing and leasing for the building.

RESOLUTION: Take More Walks

A Sloan Kettering Registered Nurse, who currently lives in Astoria, purchased at 567 Ocean a sight unseen due to her hectic schedule. The proximity to the iconic, 586-acre Prospect Park (less than half a mile away) was what heavily influenced her to move forward – she also plans to have a dog once she moves in, who she’ll be able to share the enjoyment of living by the park with.

RESOLUTION: Prioritize Self-Care

Nestled in “Millionaire’s row,” Turnberry Ocean Club is setting the new standard for ultra-luxury living. Developed by Jeffrey Soffer and opening in 2021, this 54-story Carlos Zapata-designed glass tower will be Sunny Isle Beach’s new wellness destination. The three stories of unlimited wellness amenities offers residents premium levels of self-care, including:

RESOLUTION: Learn a New Language

Although most in-person adult learning classes are canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some are choosing to use this time effectively, by learning a new language. Nick Anderson, a resident at 26-story rental tower Herald Towers, has been learning the Spanish language from the comfort of his studio apartment until it’s safe to practice in-person again. Developed by JEMB Realty, Herald Towers is located at 50 W 34th St. in New York City.

RESOLUTION: Become a Plant Parent

Owning and taking care of house plants not only cleanses the air of toxic chemicals, but helps you relax and alleviate stresses from quarantining. Another resident at Washington D.C.’s 453-unit luxury waterfront rental Watermark, Ashley Elstro, is working towards her goal of becoming a plant parent pro in 2021. She has already started purchasing house plants and has been studying how to best take care of them by watching YouTube videos and gathering tips from local plant shop owners. Ashley has even started weaving her very own macramé plant holders.

Why not work from Anguilla’s Zemi Beach House?

With Anguilla reopening hotels and resorts as of November 1st, why not seize the opportunity to work from an Island paradise for the next year? According to CNN, “Anguilla has launched a program allowing remote workers to spend three months to a year on the island.” One resort capitalizing on this development is Zemi Beach House. The award winning resort will be offering a “home away from home” from December 14th.

Why not work from Anguilla's Zemi Beach House?

Renowned for exceptional service and a prime location in Shoal Bay on Anguilla’s North Eastern coast, Zemi Beach House allows guests to experience endless beachfront activities all while immersing themselves in native Taino History and Traditions. With 6 oceanfront acres, the resort offers a selection of rooms and suites, our favorite being the three bedroom Penthouse Suite. With over 1,500 square feet of living space and the option to connect a 4th bedroom, the Penthouse is a perfect choice for a family looking to enjoy an extended escape.

Why not work from Anguilla's Zemi Beach House?

Dining options at Zemi Beach are also rather unique and plentiful, with options that range from restaurants serving traditional island cuisine to a Rhum Room. 20 Knots is the name of Zemi Beach House’s casual beachfront restaurant; the venue is characterized by its alfresco seating and mix of Latin American and Caribbean menu items. However, for a super chic after dinner experience, we suggest you visit the Bohio Bar & Lounge named for its hut fashioned after those used by the native Taino people.

Amenities on the property may truly be the resort’s defining highlight. The spa features a range of treatments, including holistic therapies inspired by Thai Rituals; even the treatment room is housed within a 300 year old Thai house. The resort even claims to offer the island’s only hammam. From water sports and tennis to rum tastings and three swimming pools, the resort leaves little to be desired.

The Most Luxurious Spa in Monaco | Meet Spa Metropole by Givenchy

Situated within the world renowned Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo, is the Didier Gomez designed Spa Metropole by Givenchy which is the closest one can come to a true Haute Couture Spa. Having just re-opened this month after a period of closure due to the global pandemic, we took an opportunity to explore the Principality of Monaco’s finest spa.

One of the first and most significant aspects of Spa Metropole’s design language is the use of elegant black and white marble coupled with soft furniture that gives the space a clean, yet soft and relaxing atmosphere void of sharp lines and aggressive design elements found in many modern facilities. Our favorite design que? A wall of virtually projected plants which transport one into a serene rain forest state of mind.

With ten treatment rooms varying both in size and shape, Spa metropole offers luxurious facilities fit for individuals and couples, alike. Options include a double suite and single suite equipped with a private bath and hammam. The walls of the facilities’ treatment rooms are anything but ordinary, featuring embossed paneling reminiscent of a white Givenchy lace gown. An elegant finishing touch to the design work are the candle like light fixtures.

A list of over two dozen unique and fascinating treatment options leave little to be desired. Massage options, which last between 60 and 90 minutes, include muscle coaching, energy boost, anti gravity, and divine harmony. One of the most unique options, the Anti Gravity treatment focuses on stimulating blood circulation and detoxing, and is said to leave guests “walking on air.” Other treatment highlights include the “Givenchy Man”, a skin treatment for gentlemen combined with a massage, as well as the L’Intemporel, an anti aging treatment to leave your skin looking more youthful. Though our personal favorite is the “Heat Experience” package, which includes sauna, hammam, caldarium, ice fountain, and sensory shower treatments.

A more uncommon offering at the Spa Metropole is the ability to select a Givenchy fragrance to accompany you throughout your treatment. To accomplish this, a fragranced tissue is placed in your bathrobe or on your treatment table.

A section of the spa has been dedicated to a Givenchy boutique, which showcases the Maison’s finest collection of skincare, fragrance and makeup products, including the exclusive L’Atelier de Givenchy fragrance consisting of 11 unique scents that made their debut in Monaco. For the woman who seeks only the finest beauticians, Spa Metropole offers “The Givenchy Makeover” with options ranging from express make up services to makeup lessons.

With its unique environment, exceptional collection of formulas and world class treatments, the Spa Metropole by Givenchy offers an unforgettable experience of the highest caliber.

The Spa Metropole by Givenchy is open daily from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm. Treatments are available by appointment between 10am and 7pm. For those who seek to combine their spa treatment with an overnight stay, the Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo is currently offering a “Happy Days!” promotion until September 30th, 2020. The offer, which is available starting from 480 Euros per night, includes accommodation in a superior room, American breakfast, and two complimentary cocktails at the ODYSSEY pool area designed by Karl Lagerfeld.

Costa Rica’s Hotel Aguas Claras | A Caribbean Retreat with Victorian Flavor

Looking for a warm Caribbean retreat with perfect waves and classic, yet simple Victorian elegance? Famed watercolourist Elizabeth Steinvorth and her daughter Elena have created what can only be described as Costa Rica’s most splendid, eco-friendly resort situated in Puerto Viejo. Steinvorth, who has holidayed in the country for decades, originally came to Costa Rica long before the nation benefited from modern conveniences, such as widespread electricity. Now having breathed new life into what resembled to be a small village of dilapidated cabanas, the new found hotelier has bridged the nation’s quaint past with modern convenience in a setting that values the natural environment above all else.

Situated on a remote private island in Costa Rica’s Limon province, Hotel Aguas Claras is made up of 6 bungalows and 6 suites which each feature their own individual design language. In addition, it offers endless opportunities to immerse oneself in this Central American nation’s rich blend of Afro-Costa Rican culture. Though all the bungalows and suites do have something in common: bright colors, comfortable fabrics, and fixtures decorated in local seashells. Highlights of this plastic free property include a significant collection of local artwork, botanical gardens, Casa Gandhi a yoga and meditation space, as well as a splendid pool.

When renovating the property in 2017, Elena Steinvorth and Elena Rohrmoser focused on modernizing the property with an equal focus on preserving the Victorian-Caribbean style. Each bungalow and suite is meant to reflect the resort’s natural beauty and have been decorated with thoughtful details, such as ‘recycled materials, recreated furniture and found objects.’ Awakening the senses of the guests is at the heart of this hotel’s philosophy, and to no surprise the Aguas Claras was awarded the Tourism of Tomorrow award by the Cayuga Collection.

The Zoological enthusiasts will not be disappointed by the Flora and Fauna, which are found in abundant quantities from Palm Trees to howler monkeys and sloths.

In addition to the Claras’ wonderful tropical setting and exceptionally private beaches is the resort’s cuisine. The local and international cuisine served at the restaurant includes an innovative menu showcasing the best of Costa Rican and international flavors, while incorporating fresh local ingredients. Highlights of the menu include Sea Bass, Plantains, and Ceviche. We also hear the bar crafts some delicious mixological cocktails. If you are a fan of hiking, biking, snorkeling, or just rejuvenating in a natural environment, few properties in Costa Rica compare to Hotel Aguas Claras.

Recharge Your Body: Benefits of Pilates

Everyone, who has gone to Pilates for at least a few months, has probably noticed the many benefits that it brings to both body and mind. Not only can Pilates help you lose weight and sculpt your body, but it can also help you clear your mind and feel so much better about yourself. Furthermore, it can reduce stress. Pilates certainly sounds like a great idea now, but let’s see what are the other benefits that Pilates can induce.

Popular Types of Pilates

When you hear Pilates, you probably just think of some exercises using a pilates ball. However, there are different types of Pilates and all of them can bring you many benefits.

Reformer Pilates – this type of Pilates offers a more intense exercise for your whole body. Also, it includes a wider variety of exercises done in groups. Plus, the benefits of Pilates reformer are bigger and you get to use machines for working out.

Mat Pilates – this is close to the original Pilates and it’s performed on the floor. Also, the exercises are more focused on your core and little to no equipment is used.

Clinical Pilates – the name can be a bit misleading because clinical pilates uses the equipment to treat the body for a specific injury. It may lack the holistic nature of Pilates, but it certainly helps the body heal and become stronger.

Recharge Your Body: Benefits of Pilates

Pilates Improves Your Memory

It is natural that as we age we lose the volume of our hippocampus, which is in charge of our memory and cognitive function. There have been studies which have proven that exercise improves our neurogenesis (creation of new brain cells) and keeps our memory fresh. Also, scientists have found that people who practice mindful exercises such as Yoga and Pilates have much better brain function and they don’t lose their memory and cognitive functions as people who don’t practice these.

It Keeps Your Body Healthy

Different types of exercises focus on different parts of your body and may over-develop some parts, while others stay neglected. However, Pilates doesn’t do that. It focuses on core strength and it trains the entire body as a whole. Pilates exercises promote balanced muscle development and strength, but they also focus on flexibility and increased range of motion for your joints. What is more, it also focuses on your breathing and mind, which makes Pilates popular among many people of different ages.

Pilates Improves Your Posture

Our spine and back are the support for our entire body. That is why good posture is essential for everyone. A good posture is a sign of good alignment and a strong core and Pilates can help you with that. Pilates trains your body to be strong and in harmony, which is a needed foundation for a strong and healthy body. And a strong and healthy body will provide ease in everyday movements. So, it’s no surprise that people with back pain do Pilates, which certainly helps them stand strong.

Recharge Your Body: Benefits of Pilates

Makes Your More Aware of Your Body

We often forget or neglect our bodies and never pay attention to our movements, posture, and breathing. However, with Pilates, you will learn how to focus on these three areas and how to perfect your controlled movement. This will translate into your everyday life and you will start to notice how you are treating your body and what needs to be improved. Also, it will teach you the symmetry and coordination, how to keep your core tight, shoulders square and take care of your posture. Through time and exercise, this will come naturally to you and you will start treating your body better.

Where to Train

Every bigger city certainly has its Pilates studio. So, do some digging and ask around if you have a local Pilates studio near you. However, there are some major studios that are really famous for their work. For example, New York and London have some of the most famous and luxurious Pilates studios that are worth trying. If you’re in NYC you should certainly try Karen Lord Pilates Movement studio and the SLT studio.

These two studios are lead by professionals and have all the necessary and latest equipment that will get the best out of your Pilates workout. In London, try Triyoga and Heartcore if you want the best equipment, trainers and a relaxing atmosphere.

If you’ve always wanted to try Pilates, this is the time. It brings many benefits to your body and mind and it can help you a lot. Not only will your body be strong, but your mind will stay clear and you will be treating your body as a temple.

Talking Sustainable Fashion with Pauline Hansen of PAMA London

German born, London based eco-entrepreneur, active-wear designer, and yogini, Pauline Hansen is passionate about contributing to a more mindful world. For Pauline, Yoga is more than just an activity, it is a lifestyle. With this in mind, we seized the opportunity to chat with the Creative Director about how she aims to make a difference and why sustainability in fashion is so important. When meeting Pauline you are quite literally intoxicated by her overwhelming energy and enthusiasm. As she showed us her most recent collection titled ‘Moon and Stars’, Pauline’s first statement was “the new collection is all made out of recycled plastics from the ocean.”

All of the fabric in PAMA London’s current collection is sourced from plastic gathered from the ocean and sea around Spain. After the plastic is collected it is woven into a yarn, which is made into a superfluous fabric in Italy. Pauline’s desire to produce high quality and environmentally conscious clothing is at the heart of her brand. “The Issue with fast fashion [is] people just keep on buying and buying and then they threw [the clothes] away,” says Pauline. “It’s better to buy a couple of things that are really nice and then keep them for longer.”

In the past, Hansen’s brand PAMA London had their line manufactured in Los Angeles, however for this new collection, PAMA moved manufacturing to Portugal where ultramodern equipment is able to assist in the creation of the brand’s current line. When discussing the subject of the move, Pauline explains “I moved everything to Portugal because actually the technology is much better there for Active-wear and flatlock stitching.”

Read on to learn more about the woman behind what can easily be described as one of the best active-wear brands on the market.

How did you initially become interested in Yoga and Wellness? And how did that subsequently inspire you to create PAMA London?

“My Mom always took [me and my four sisters to do Yoga] since we were little. My Mom has always been really into Yoga. I decided to do my Yoga teacher training in Costa Rica just for myself to deepen my practice and I learned a lot about the chakras and the energy fields and how it also helps you when you wear [particular] colors; and I thought at least when you practice yoga it’s nice to wear something sustainable, made [mindfully], and eco conscious. I live in London and I’m always in big cities. I live in my PAMA leggings because they are comfortable and you know you run around and it’s important when you practice yoga, or [at least personally] for me it was important because everything that you put on your skin [should be made ethically] and good for your skin and has no chemicals. So I wanted to create something [that is] fit to form because leggings are really high waisted, so they really tuck you in and support you [in] your active lifestyle and for yoga practice. I wanted to create something not only like organic cotton or linen, because [many] yoga clothes [are made from those materials]. All the gurus in India wear organic cotton or linen. I wanted to create something that could be worn in the city and look fashionable.”

What has been the inspiration behind your collections so far?

“So I did my Yoga teacher training in Costa Rica with Marianne Wells Yoga School and we [focused] a lot on the Chakras. So [the Chakras inspired] the first collection, which is made from charcoal bamboo. [My second collection], the Moon and Stars Collection was very influenced by astrology. I’m bringing out new leggings in October, so they are [influenced by] astrology and star alignment. I work with the ECONYL brand, so that’s an organization that cleans up the ocean, they take the plastic from the ocean [and repurpose the materials into nylon which is used in our second collection].”

“The Moon and Stars [collection was inspired by the] love [I have for] the moon cycle and my interest in bio dynamic farming. The cycle of Bio Dynamic Farming and the Moon Cycle [were definitely major inspirations]. I [became] inspired [one year ago] when I was in Tulum because there was an astrology workshop [with] a woman, who spoke a lot about the star alignments. The energy in Tulum is very magical, it is healing.”

We absolutely love that PAMA London is eco-conscious and ethically made. With that said, why do you believe that it is so critical for brands to produce great products that are both environmentally considerate and ethical?

“It really depends on the industry that you are in. If you make flowy dresses or [like my brand PAMA London], it’s really high-performance and activewear with a focus of fitting really well and providing support. [For me] it’s important to use fabrics that are biodegradable for the earth. There are so many things now, it’s like ‘where do you start and where do you stop?’ I think [with] the whole cycle, it’s important to tick all of the boxes [in regards to] sustainable production. So [for me] it’s always [fabric] quality; [the material in the Moon and Stars Collection] is wonderful because it gives great support and is just [all around] such a nice fabric. [Though] even if it’s not a legging, it’s still always about the material. It’s also important to me that there are no toxins in the fabric because eighty percent go straight into your skin [and then] the blood stream.”

What do you believe makes PAMA London stand-out compared to other Active Wear brands?

“It’s important when you produce a product that is [very desirable], especially for me. Selling in London, I think people in the [USA] are more open minded but it is still fit to form and is still fashionable [not to mention] looks nice. I wanted to create something that is young and fun, and not too organic because there are a lot of sustainable organic brands. I see their [products] and it’s nice that they use [organic or sustainable materials] and it’s [also] nice how they produce, but for me personally I would never really love to wear [those products] because I’d like to wear something that looks [stylish] and not too strange. Most of the other eco-friendly activewear brands have very baggy garments made from hemp or [similar materials]. With the Nylon [that I use in my collection our products] are fit to form and really tuck you in very well because all of the leggings are high waisted.”

“We use sustainable recycled fabric. Very few activewear brands are using recycled plastic [in their products]. What is nice about PAMA is that it is a simple and timeless active wear [brand]. [Our pieces] can be worn in the city and are not too funky like many other organic brands that [resemble a] hippy [style], you know? A lot of other brands’ designs are just too hippy yoga. I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing them in London when I’m running about all day.”

Can you tell us a little bit about the healing colours of the seven Chakras in your collection?

“The Chakra collection is all about the colours and how you are attracted to a [particular] colour each day. Based on the colour that you are drawn to, this is the Chakra that you should work on. It is nice to wear the colour Chakra that you are working on to balance out that Chakra. Each of the Chakra bras come with a booklet that explains each chakra and how each Chakra helps you when you wear the colours.”

“So the bras are made in the colours. The first collection featured all of the colours and now the new Chakra bra is available in two [shades] of blue, green, and violet. The chakra is all about the energy field, so it [always tells] a story. And it is quite like mystical.”

Take us through a day in the life of Pauline Hansen.

“Well, it’s always so different because I travel so much! My parents brought [me and my siblings] up so internationally. In the summer my [family] is always in Germany and then in the winter my family is in the US. But I’m based in London [and] I’ve been there for seven and a half years now. I start my day with morning Yoga because it really grounds me and helps me to set all my intentions. I focus and I feel great with my Yoga practice, it really helps me.”

What is your favorite work-out and how do you find the time to fit it in?

“Well I always do Yoga, [so] I should work-out more. [Aside from] Power Yoga, Yoga really isn’t a workout; it’s more for your mind and your spirit. It’s great to work out – I love going hiking, I love swimming, and I love just being active. I actually [dance] Zumba, [as well]. I love dancing, I used to dance professionally in Germany until I was 19 [years old].”

How do you feel that Yoga has impacted your life?

“For example when you travel, sometimes you cannot do Yoga. But I try to do it every day even if it is just for ten minutes. It really helps me just to ground myself and to have clear thoughts. You know when you’re really stressed out, and you have so many meetings, I just do Yoga and it helps me to [compile] my thoughts and to get to a decision when [I] can’t make up my mind about things.”

“Yoga is really a whole lifestyle. Only twenty percent is on the mat and 80 percent is off the mat. That’s why I also produce the [PAMA London clothing] because I think it’s silly if you just sit there on your mat and then everyone says ‘be mindful, be good to the planet’, and normally people only speak about eating organic and gluten free [as well as] vegan or vegetarian. But then all the yogis don’t really care so much [about] what they wear. [However, yoga] is a whole lifestyle. It’s just as important [as] what you put on your skin and see where it is manufactured. Before I started my brand I was sitting there in my Lulu Lemon outfit and I just thought ‘great, but what I’m wearing was actually produced in Bangladesh’. And now I’m sitting here doing my yoga [and] talking about ‘be good to the earth and mindful to every being’. Like I’m vegan for four years [now], but I’ve been vegetarian since I was 14.”

Being a frequent traveler, what are some of your favorite wellness destinations?

“Actually, I’ve honestly never been to such a special place as [where we are here in Big Sur, California] I’ve traveled a lot, and Big Sur and also [specifically the Post Ranch Inn] is very impressive. The garden here [at the resort] and all of the vegetables they grow for the [restaurant]; the nature is so impressive here. Yesterday I went on a four hour hike and I learned so much! The [giant Redwood] trees are so impressive. I had never seen so much nature in one day, and in one place. You have the ocean and then the forest. I think it’s very special and super magical. [Also, in Big Sur] everyone is so into Yoga.”

“I also love Tulum, especially since there is this healer from Los Angeles – his name is Bobby Klein. I’ve been [visiting] Tulum for eight years, and now because of Instagram everyone is there, so it’s great to visit Tulum off season. Tulum is great because it’s very eco-conscious. Then there is the Yäan wellness spa by Bobby Klein. The Mayan energy [in Tulum] is super healing and they work everything with the Chakras, as well. I think Mexicans are really amazing people, they are so nice! Whenever I’m in Tulum I feel the best because [many] of the hotels are on the beach. You are right on the beach and it’s so nice! You also have the jungle. You can drive around there and visit so many sanitas and healing waters and [natural] springs.”

Is there anywhere that you have not yet visited, but are dying to go and see?

So [Big Sur] was really on my bucket list. I would love to visit Bhutan to see all of the temples, hike around there, and also visit the Himalayas. I think that is supposed to be really amazing. I’ve also never been to Bali or Hawaii.

Where to next?

“I want to make sustainable fashion even more accessible to everyone. My dream is to see everyone wearing sustainable fashion.”

Is there anything you’d like to add that you didn’t have the chance to say?

“I’ve already filmed the [PAMA clothing] production, but I am really hoping to share more about our sustainable production and the educational side of things as well. I am going to be starting a blog in October. No one really knows what goes into the fabrics [of most clothing], there are so many toxins and then even if you wash them the clothes still have toxins in there.”

“I think the new generation is so much more aware of [being environmentally conscious] and supporting sustainable fashion. I work with ocean cleanup and they clean up the ocean [from] the plastic. But then you have all this plastic, so it’s great to recycle that into something. It’s a whole cycle! Our packaging is made from organic cotton.”

“In the process of making things, it is not only that vegan is much better and like non-vegan is bad. Because for example, leather is biodegradable. So, I’m vegan, but I wear leather goods. I think natural shoes are much nicer than plastic. One of the worst vegan fashion products is vegan fur, because the process of vegan fur production is so much more polluting to the environment than like buying or wearing an organic fur that [meets] all the guidelines where the animals aren’t harmed that much.”

Healthy Living Takes Center Stage at Troon Pacific’s Residence 2646

Situated on Union Street in San Francisco, California, is the city’s latest wellness-inspired, eco-friendly home, known simply as Residence 2646. This newly constructed residence is like few others, offering benefits to its occupants that have been otherwise ignored until recent times. When one procures a home, it is common place to put the aesthetic appeal above other elements that may affect the wellness of the buyer and their family. Troon Pacific built Residence 2646 in order to relieve you of these worrying issues, as the home offers numerous health oriented amenities including ventilation outlets, air filtration systems, Everpure water filtration system and shielded cables that limit the risk of Electro Magnetic Fields.

On the border between the Cow Hollow and Pacific Heights neighborhoods, this pre-certified LEED-platinum abode is expected to be the area’s most sustainably-built property. The house features four bedrooms, an office, a guest suite and an au pair suite, making it the ideal family home. One of the most spectacular aspects of the property, however, are the panoramic views which span across the San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island.

“Troon Pacific’s newest wellness-focused home, Residence 2646, is a sustainably-built, technologically-advanced home in San Francisco. The exceptional home was designed to enhance the buyer’s physical, mental and emotional health,” said Gregory Malin, CEO of Troon Pacific. “At Troon Pacific, we’re passionate about building in new and environmentally friendly ways. We achieved this at Residence 2646 by using advanced air filtration systems and by mitigating the use of “red-list” chemicals in the building materials and finishes. Troon Pacific also implements whole-house water filtration systems, open floorplans with an abundance of natural light, environmentally-friendly products and locally sourced materials.”

Once you set foot on Residence 2646’s gated entryway, you are immediately greeted by a finely landscaped walkway with trees overhead and lanterns positioned above in order to highlight the splendor of the home’s outer-facade. You walk straight from the street-level entrance to the home’s main level, which introduces you to ample open living areas with splendid views through a wall of sliding glass doors. Additional features of the main level are a commodious living room, dining room, marble encased powder room, family room and a gourmet kitchen alongside European White Oak hardwood floors and 10-foot ceilings. Residents can easily transverse from floor-to-floor with either the generously sized elevator or the glass-enclosed staircase. A massive operable skylight hangs at the center of the home, brightening the staircase as well as flooding every floor with natural light. Beautiful warm innovative interior design is another aspect at the heart of Troon Pacific homes, which garnered their design language from Malin’s late wife, Charlot, who was one of the most prolific interior designers in California.

The garden-level of the home truly embraces wellness to its fullest as it offers broad wellness functions such as a fitness center, a massage room, a spa with a glass-encased sauna and a steam shower. Furthermore, sliding glass doors open up to a simple yet tasteful hardwood deck that can also function as an outdoor yoga studio. An indoor/outdoor garden area on the first floor presents a full-service wet bar alongside custom cabinets, floating shelves, dishwasher and ice maker.

On the subject of how Residence 2646 is unique from other awe-inspiring projects. Troon Pacific CEO Greg Malin states, “We incorporated a large amount of steel into the home and created an open floorplan that is brought to life by glass walls and wood. Inspired by biophilic design principals, we also love to create an indoor/outdoor connection wherever possible. Achieving this amount of glass on the exterior is very unusual and takes a really good engineer. However, the result is panoramic, unobstructed views on each level and a true connection to nature. It’s one of the things we are proud of.”

The outdoor area behind the house is dual purposed, functioning as an addition to the residence’s wellness center. The vibrant plant life and towering trees integrate together to establish an enclosed sanctuary in the backyard, designed to allow relaxation in an aesthetically pleasing and wellness inducing environment. The backyard is truly an awe-inspiring part of the property as its outdoor entertainment space is defined by a sunken living room complete with a fire pit, radiant-heated seating and a built-in barbeque extension.

The residence’s lower level offers entertainment areas and living spaces that features a media room that has been pre-wired for surround sound, a thermal & humidity-controlled wine tasting room, a laundry room, a mudroom and an AV room designed for mechanical access. Aside from these entertainment spaces, the floor also has an additional guest bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a private entrance. The garage includes a catering area, a pet spa, a Tesla Power Wall and parking for three cars thanks to the addition of room beneath the garage floor that allows residents to conveniently lower a car for easy storage.

When asked about his favorite element in the entire house, Malin said: “It’s a difficult question… I love the main living level; the feeling of connectivity created by the open floorplan, the drama brought on by the stone accent wall, the unique powder room… those elements combined with the stunning entrance is probably what I love the most.”

The main level’s kitchen boasts a broad 30-foot sliding glass wall that opens up to a full-width terrace accompanied by an herb garden and glass guardrail that complements the 180-degree view of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. Located at the center of the kitchen is an expansive Boffi island in the latest metallic finish together with waterfall stone edges and breakfast bar seating. The kitchen offers custom cabinets, stone slab countertops and an uninterrupted 20-foot window, which welcomes natural light to flow freely.

Malin walks us through how the innovative, wellness-focused technology is implemented throughout the home. “The house has one of the first Tesla Power Walls installed, which can also serve as a battery backup. We also install a below-grade air and water barrier, which is great for both environmental and wellness reasons. We do that as a precaution because in some cases there are unground streams running along the hillsides; you never know where all the water is being directed, so we are thoughtful. The barrier consists of about six to eight inches of drainage rock and perforated pipes. We actively ventilate those pipes to prevent air pathogens from entering the house. This technique is also used to protect from Radon exposure. We do this for every home because we believe a healthy life is the greatest luxury, and we want to ensure homeowners have the best possible air quality.”

The master bedroom, located on the fourth floor, boasts a custom wood-wrapped vestibule with a double-door entrance that takes you to dual walk-in closet. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by sliding glass doors that withdraw to a private terrace with outstanding views of both the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. The two-sided, transparent fireplace proposes a view straight into the opulent master bath, which includes a Boffi double vanity with mirror enclosed television, a glass-encased water closet, a freestanding bathtub and a shower with full-height glass window that allows for sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay. On the rest of the floor, three additional bedrooms are found with ensuite bathrooms that feature stone walls, countertops and wide stone tile floors.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is the home’s fifth floor, also referred to as the penthouse, which shelters a full bar and entertainment room. The floor includes a refrigerator, a sink and a Terzani ‘School of Light’ chandelier. Additional amenities are a private study with ensuite bathroom, an open-floorplan and a staircase leading up to a breathtaking rooftop deck presenting a fire pit, natural plants, glass guardrails, solar panels and magnificent 360-degree views of San Francisco.

The overflowing sustainability and wellness beneficial applications offer bountiful energy efficiency for the house. Troon Pacific added thermally insulated, double-pane windows and glass doors; ventilation outlets beneath the sinks, as well as in just about every closet and all the shoe cabinets; Energy Star appliances; solar panels; and 90-to-100% heated LED lighting floods throughout. It was of paramount importance to not only make the home fully functional, but also to put the well-being of its residents first and foremost. The following advanced-applications are what makes Residence 2646 a truly remarkable home: a MERV-13 air filtration systems that work to achieve a total air change every two-to-three hours; a grey water system that accumulates, purifies and recycles water for landscape irrigation; and a Everpure water filtration system all through the home. Furthermore, shielded cable was implemented in all bedrooms to diverge the potential risk of Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF).

“We installed a hidden whole-garden Sonance system,” says Malin. “There is an approximately 30-inch subwoofer buried underground with numerous satellite speakers, which gives a nice depth to the sound in the garden. When we were installing the system, we think the most important thing is that the music can just carry throughout the home to create a seamless experience. You can also program each speaker individually if you wanted.”

Additional innovative technological amenities at Residence 2646 include a Lutron HomeWorks lighting control system, a car charger and a Savant Smart Home automation system, which can be controlled from your iPhone, Android or home-installed iPads. This system performs fine-tuning of the home’s audio, visual, heating and security elements, such as cameras and alarms. When building Residence 2646, it was Troon Pacific’s mission to focus on materials and products that had the least if not any environmental impact. They chose to use products free of red-list chemicals, Declare label products with minimal emissions and a wide-range of extra eco-encouraging systems.

“I don’t like to describe Troon as a developer because I feel there is a negative connotation with that,” said Malin. “I really believe in what we do — we are investing in the communities we care about in a big way. And I hope one day people will look back at the effort and energy we put into the city and be inspired to create healthier, more sustainable homes as well.”

After Labor Day, Residence 2646 will officially be listed on the market for 34 million USD. For more information on the residence, visit: Residence2646.com

On what Malin would like his company to be known for, he states: “as a company that cares as much about the quality and social responsibility of our work, as it does about its profits and business goals.” Malin adds, “I think that’s something not quite understood by many. The quality of these homes and what’s hidden in those walls… the little things that we did because we always strive to be thoughtful. We think it’s important to treat each home as if it’s our own.”
